Article in The Colony Courier-Leader: Library, CoServ celebrate grant

Thanks to a grant of $4,475 from CoServ Charitable Foundation, children, young adults, and adult students in The Colony don’t have to be stumped by a tough homework assignment. CoServ Charitable Foundation, which is funded through donations from members and employees of CoServ, awarded the grant to The Colony Public Library to fund the Library’s online homework help service.

Students from fourth grade to 12th grade and college introduction level can easily get immediate, free help with math, English, social studies, and science from qualified subject specialists via the Library’s public access computers or remotely via www.thecolony.lib.tx.us, the Library’s catalog website. Live Homework Help™ is available in the Library from 3 p.m. to closing and remotely seven days a week from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Spanish-speaking tutors are available in math and science. Live Homework Help en Español provides assistance with math and science; it is available in the Library Tuesday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to closing and remotely Sunday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

These services are available year-round, so those seeking to improve their skills in these subjects can receive help even during school breaks.

The tutors are certified teachers, college professors, professional tutors, graduate school students and students attending four-year accredited universities; they are certified through the Tutor.com Training Program. They love to teach and share their knowledge online. Every tutor has completed a third-party background check and a comprehensive training program. A Tutor Evaluation and Mentor Program ensures quality tutoring.

In addition to the service to the students, the parents of the community are provided with a resource to help them cope with the increasingly difficult range of homework challenges faced as they endeavor to assist their children throughout their school years. What a relief to parents to know that help is at hand – as close as the nearest Internet-accessible computer – even after the hours that a teacher or library is available!
