A $10,000 grant from the CoServ Charitable Foundation will help Denton County Friends of the Family construct two bedrooms and a bathroom as part of its shelter expansion.Toni Johnson-Simpson, executive director of Denton County Friends of the Family, says, “This grant is the first outside support we’ve received to expand our shelter. The expansion will help even more families who suffer from domestic abuse and sexual assault by maintaining their comfort and dignity on the journey toward healing.”In addition to the two bedrooms and a bathroom, the shelter expansion will provide more counseling, play therapy space, a laundry facility, a technology center for computers, and classes for shelter residents. Dennis Engelke, a Grants Committee member of the CoServ Charitable Foundation, says, “We’re proud to partner with this fine organization whose purpose is to help neighbors in need. It provides valuable services to families whose lives have been disrupted by the actions of others.”For more than 20 years, Denton County Friends of the Family has been the only agency in Denton County providing shelter for victims of relationship violence and/or sexual assault.
