The CoServ Charitable Foundation (CCF) approved a $5,000 emergency grant this week for American Red Cross fire relief efforts in Montague County
Eight fires sprang up last week across the county. Fueled by high winds, flames quickly engulfed 75,000 acres of parched pastures and up to 100 homes. Three people died and two were injured in the county near the Oklahoma border. Wildfires have burned more than 192,000 acres across the state the past several days. Though now contained, the odor of burned debris lingers from the blackened fields, and heaps of ashes, destroyed homes/businesses, and charred cars remain. The American Red Cross stands ready to render disaster relief to Montague County residents and those from surrounding counties who are affected.
The CCF joins hands with neighbors and state officials with an outpouring of help in Montague County – with local and state agencies setting up shop to aid those whose homes are nothing but ashes. Individuals interested in helping victims of disaster can make a donation to the American Red Cross or contact their local chapter to volunteer. To make a donation, contact your local Red Cross, call 1-800 RED CROSS or visit www.redcross.org. Or, you can contact the North Central Texas Chapter (Wichita Falls) directly at (940) 322-8686.
