CoServ grant helps Double Oak police stay safe

Double Oak police will soon be able to access criminal records from their vehicles, thanks to a $14,480 grant from the CoServ Charitable Foundation. The grant will be used to buy mobile computing equipment for officers’ cars. The relative slowness of the current system keeps officers from viewing criminal history in a timely manner. Sergeant Michael Huffman says, “This technology will keep officers safer because it allows us to access someone’s criminal records before ever making contact with the person. That could make a difference in how an officer approaches a potentially dangerous situation.”Jason Jones, chief of police in Double Oak, says, “Our department will also become more efficient, because officers will no longer have to frequently return to headquarters to complete paperwork. Instead, they will be on patrol keeping the streets safe for Double Oak residents.”Dennis Engelke, a grants committee member of the charitable foundation, says, “Police officers provide a vital service for our communities. This is where we live, raise our children and conduct day-to-day business. We’re proud to partner with the Double Oak Police Department, because they make this area a better place to live and work.”
